The Thriftmaster. asked: I’m thinking of hiring a personal trainer. They offer them at my gym for a reasonable price. i’m trying to lose 15-20 pounds and tone up for my wedding in june. i had a baby last year and while i have lost most of the weight, my body just isn’t what it used to be…
my question is: for those of you that have gone this route…did it work? did you feel more obligated and motivated to work out since you had someone telling you what to do?

Last year, I my times ranged from the high 18:00s to my PR of 17:43. I also continued running throughout the year during the track season, hitting a 5:03 mile PR. I was determined to drop my cross country times big time, and ran 30 miles/week at the beginning of the summer to 40 miles/week by the end. Going into the season, I was optimistic, and set have a great year.
Unfortunatly, during hard workouts with my team, I haven’t been staying with the people I was beating at the end of last year. Then, at time trials, my time fell 5 seconds from last year (and last year, I was pretty much new to the sport).
I am suddenly lost and worried. I can’t seem to muster the mental strength I had last year to finish hard workouts either.
I didn’t do anything other than easy runs during the summer, and had to take a couple of days off for a hip injury in August, but other than that, I am drawing blanks. Help!

J asked: I’m a mid-twenties woman and just getting back into excersizing cause I am really fat. I need to lose about 30 lbs and tone all over, but I don’t know how to do it. I want to try weight lifting, but I have never done it before, and I have a lot of questions:
Is it better to do many reps with low weights or a few reps with heavy weights?
I usually jog a couple miles 3 or 4 times a week. Should I do this before or after lifting?
Do I need to warm up or stretch before I start lifting?
How many times a week should I go to the gym?
I am completely lost. Any advice will help!

j&w asked: I’m 17. I’m 5′6 and I weigh about 135 I think. I want to get down to about 120 because I think that’s a good weight for being 5′6. I don’t want to do this within a week, I want to get thinner and be healthy. I already eat very healthy because I’m part of a very health-conscious family. I eat proper meals and everything, but I want to have a good exercise plan. I want to get down to 120 by the middle of March so that I can feel great for Spring. I have about 8 weeks and I’ve heard that the healthy amount to lose is no more than two pounds a week, so that’s what I’m aiming for. What’s the proper amount of exercise to accomplish this? I’m a member at a gym so I have access to exercising equipment and everything. How many times a week should I exercise, and how much cardio should I do? I’d also like to know how much other stuff I should do like sit ups. If you’re a trainer or know a lot about fitness, please let me know what will be good for me! Thanks so much.

Izabella asked: I am trying to loose 100lb, I have lost 30 so far, (exercise and diet). I have lost cm all over (30cm this month - biggest loss at the gym this month!), but the excess fat on my lower abdomen seems to be getting flabbier (if that is a word). I am not looking for short cuts, but I want to know if there are any extra exercises to help with the lower abdomen, and what should I do about supporting the flab as the diet and exercise continue to work.
I have Crohn’s, which has made any constriction or abdominal exercise impossible in the past, and that is what I think has caused the blubber to settle there. So now the Crohn’s is not causing any problems, I need to learn how to work these muscles again.
I am also using a skin firming moisturising cream, and it seems to be helping on my arms and thighs.
I am going to the gym (Curves) 4-5 times a week (30 min), swimming when I can, walking 3-4 times a week, and using ‘The Bean’ 4-5 times a week.
Thanks for all advice.
Any idea’s?
